5 signs it might be time to outsource your social media

When you run a small business, social media can quite easily become one of those jobs you’ll “do later.”

You’ve got customers to reply to, work to actually do, invoices to send, emails to answer… and then you remember you haven’t posted on Facebook for three weeks.

If your Google searches are starting to look like this, it might be time to get some help…

So you quickly find a photo, write something, post it and tell yourself you’ll be more organised next week. We've all been there.

But if social media is becoming another thing hanging over you, it might be time to think about getting some help with it.

Here are five signs it could be time to outsource it.

1. You only post when you remember

One week you post three times. Then nothing for a fortnight.

It’s not that you don’t care about your social media – it’s just that when you’re busy running a business, other things come first.

Having your content planned in advance means your pages can stay active even when you’re having one of those weeks.

2. You have no idea what to post

This is probably one of the things I hear most from small business owners.

“I just don’t know what to put on there.”

But there’s usually loads you could be talking about.

Such as, a job you’ve just finished, a question a customer asked you this morning, a review, something people often get wrong about your industry, or a quick look behind the scenes.

You don't need a groundbreaking idea every time you post.

3. It takes you ages

You think, “I'll just quickly put something on Facebook.”

Half an hour later you're still choosing a photo, moving things around in Canva (what the heck is Canva?!) or trying to work out what on earth to write for the caption.

One post might not take long, but when you're trying to do that several times a week, it soon adds up.

Especially when it's time you could be spending on the parts of your business that actually need you.

4. Your social media doesn't really show what your business is like

Have a scroll back through your own page.

If someone found your business for the first time today, would they know what you do? Would they know who you help? Would they get a feel for the person or people behind the business?

If the answer is “erm… sort of?”, it might be worth giving it some attention.

5. You just don't like doing it

This is a perfectly good reason!

Not everyone enjoys social media. Not everyone wants to spend their evenings thinking of captions, making graphics or editing videos.

And you don't have to.

You started your business because you're good at what you do. There’s nothing wrong with getting somebody else to take care of the bits you don't enjoy.

Does any of that sound familiar?

Outsourcing your social media doesn't mean you have to completely hand over your business or suddenly start posting every day.

Sometimes it's simply having somebody there to come up with the ideas, create the content and make sure things actually get posted.

And that’s exactly the kind of thing I help small businesses with at The Wright Words.

So if “sort out social media” has been sitting on your to-do list for far too long, get in touch, and let's have a chat to see if I can help.
