About the project

Hessian & Hemlock is a fictional home and interiors brand I created as a concept project for The Wright Words.

The aim was to demonstrate how I would approach a client’s digital presence across multiple channels — from developing a consistent brand voice and content direction to creating social media, website content, blog copy and email marketing.

The fictional brief was to develop a warm and recognisable digital presence for a home and interiors brand offering carefully curated homeware, furniture, textiles, fragrance and finishing touches.

The content needed to feel warm, natural and inspiring, while maintaining a consistent look and tone across the brand’s website, social media and email communications.

The overall aim was not simply to promote products, but to create useful and engaging lifestyle content that would help build an audience, strengthen the brand’s online presence and encourage customers to discover the wider collection.

I developed Hessian & Hemlock around the tagline:

“Curated for a home that feels like you.”

From there, I created a warm, earthy visual direction using neutral tones, natural textures and muted greens, alongside a conversational and lifestyle-led tone of voice.

For the content strategy, I wanted to create a balance between inspiration, useful advice and product promotion, rather than making every piece of content sales-focused.

I also looked at how one seasonal theme could be adapted across different channels, creating a joined-up autumn campaign rather than treating social media, website content and email marketing as separate activities.

For the concept campaign, I created:

  • Brand concept and visual identity, including primary and secondary logo designs

  • Homepage messaging and website copy

  • An autumn lifestyle reel, including concept development and video editing

  • A seven-slide educational social media carousel

  • Product launch content for the fictional Fireside & Fig home fragrance

  • A seasonal home and interiors blog article

  • An email newsletter combining editorial and product-led content

Before creating the campaign content, I developed a visual identity for Hessian & Hemlock that reflected the brand's warm, natural and welcoming style.

I created a primary logo alongside a simplified H&H mark, allowing the branding to be adapted across website, social media, product and email content while maintaining a consistent identity.

The autumn campaign centred around the idea of making the home feel warmer and cosier as the seasons change.

The website article, “5 Ways to Make Your Home Feel Cosier This Autumn,” formed the main piece of editorial content. This was then adapted into an engaging social media carousel , allowing the same idea to reach the audience in a shorter, more visual format.

A lifestyle reel added variety to the campaign, using warm, cosy visuals to capture the feeling of an autumn evening at home, while the Fireside & Fig product launch introduced a commercial element to the campaign.

Finally, the monthly email newsletter brought the campaign together, promoting the new fragrance while encouraging readers to explore the seasonal blog content.

This created a consistent campaign across website, social media and email, while adapting the messaging, tone and format to suit each channel.

Personal design projects

I also enjoy putting my creative side to work and designing my own cards. Here are a few examples of designs I’ve created that are particularly meaningful to me, showcasing my love of creativity, design, and attention to detail.

The right content. The right message.

The Wright Words

What people I've worked with say...

Over the years, I’ve had the pleasure of working with some fantastic people across publishing, digital content and communications. Here’s what a few of them have to say about working with me.

"I worked with Laura Wright for around nine years, during which time she was an extremely valued member of our editorial team.

Laura was responsible for creating and managing website content, as well as looking after our social media channels, and she consistently produced work of a very high standard. She is an excellent writer and editor, with a strong understanding of digital content and what engages an online audience.

She was always reliable, punctual and hardworking, and could be trusted to get on with a job and deliver it properly. Just as importantly, Laura was a great person to have as part of the team: professional, dependable and easy to work with.

I would have no hesitation in recommending Laura to anyone looking for a skilled and experienced freelance writer, editor or digital content professional."
